This spring I participated two grouse festivals – Prairie Chicken Festival in Steven Points, Wisconsin and Lesser Prairie-Chicken Festival in Woodward, Oklahoma.  I was a keynote speaker at the Prairie Chicken Festival in Wisconsin and had a great turnout.  I also did a field workshop at the Woodward festival.

These were great events and I highly recommend anybody to attend them if you are interested in learning about these birds and want to have a front row seat for their spring courtship.  It is also an excellent place to meet other birders around the country.

Both festivals offer a variety of activities, such as bird watching, workshops, and expert presentations. I hope to participate many more in the future.

My article in the BirdWatching magazine, “Prairie Dancers,” will be a great source for anybody who’s interested in a list of festivals or places to go to learn about the birds.
